Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the OpenBook mobile app and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using OpenBook, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service. For privacy details, see our Privacy Policy.
OpenBook is operated by Jay Patel (individual developer).
1. The Service
OpenBook is a financial transparency tool for businesses with multiple owners. It helps co-owners connect shared financial accounts (via Plaid), import transactions, and review shared activity. OpenBook is not a bank, payment rail, tax advisor, or full accounting system. Features may change as we improve the Service.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be able to form a binding contract to use OpenBook.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Businesses, co-owners, and authorization
If you create or join a business in OpenBook, you represent that you are authorized to view and, where applicable, connect financial accounts for that business. You are responsible for who you invite and for the access those partners receive. Co-owners may see financial activity linked to that business.
Only connect bank or credit accounts you are authorized to link. Do not link personal accounts that co-owners should not see unless that is intentional and agreed.
4. Bank connections and Plaid
Account linking is provided through Plaid. Your use of Plaid is also subject to Plaid’s terms and privacy policies. OpenBook does not store your bank login credentials. Connection quality depends on Plaid and your financial institution; we do not guarantee unbroken sync or complete historical data.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of content you submit (business details, notes, categories, and similar). You grant us a limited license to host, store, process, display, and transmit that content solely as needed to operate the Service, including sharing it with co-owners of the same business.
You represent that you have the rights needed to submit content and that your content does not violate law or someone else’s rights.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service
- Connect accounts or invite users without proper authorization
- Upload malware or content you do not have rights to use
- Reverse engineer or copy the Service except as allowed by law
7. Third-party services
OpenBook relies on third-party providers (including Firebase/Google Cloud and Plaid). Your use of those providers may also be subject to their terms and privacy policies.
8. Fees
OpenBook is currently offered free of charge. If we introduce paid features later, we will present applicable pricing and terms before you purchase.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” OpenBook does not provide financial, legal, or tax advice and does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of imported bank data. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpenBook and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim or (b) USD $50.
11. Termination
You may stop using OpenBook at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will survive termination.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
