Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how OpenBook (“OpenBook,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services. OpenBook is a financial transparency tool for businesses with multiple owners. It is not a bank, payment processor, or accounting firm.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile

Email address, name or display name you provide, password (managed by our authentication provider; we do not see your plaintext password), and optional profile details such as a photo.

Business and partnership

Business name and metadata, partner/co-owner relationships and ownership information, invitations, proposals related to ownership or business deletion, and activity needed for a shared transparency history.

Financial information via Plaid

If you connect a bank or credit account, you do so through Plaid Link. You authenticate with your institution through Plaid.

With your authorization, we may receive and store:

• Account and institution identifiers and display metadata
• Account holder identity information used to help confirm the correct account was linked (when Identity is enabled)
• Posted transaction history (amounts, dates, merchant/descriptions, and related fields)
• A Plaid access token stored on our servers only, so we can sync updates

Technical and usage

• Device and app version information
• Authentication session identifiers
• Crash or error diagnostics (if enabled)
• IP address and basic request metadata processed by our cloud providers

2. How we use information

• Create and secure your account
• Operate multi-owner businesses, invitations, and consensus workflows
• Connect accounts via Plaid and import/sync transactions for transparency
• Help verify that a linked account appears to belong to the right party (Identity, when used)
• Provide support and respond to requests
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, and debug issues
• Comply with law and enforce our terms

We do not use Plaid data to sell advertising profiles or to underwrite consumer credit.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

We share information only as needed with:

• Other co-owners of a business you join — partners in the same business can see that business’s connected activity and related records
• Plaid — bank linking, identity/account verification fields (as applicable), and transaction sync. See plaid.com/legal
• Google Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, file storage, and backend functions
• Apple / Google — app distribution and platform services
• Legal / safety — if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security

4. Data storage, security, and location

• Data is stored with Firebase / Google Cloud, which encrypts data at rest and provides TLS encryption in transit
• Plaid access tokens and API secrets are kept server-side with access restricted by our security rules and backend controls
• Processing and storage may occur in the United States or other locations where our providers operate

5. Retention

We retain account, business, and linked financial data while needed to provide OpenBook and for legitimate operational, security, and legal purposes.

• If you disconnect a bank connection, we stop syncing and remove or invalidate associated connection secrets
• If a business is deleted through OpenBook’s deletion process, we delete associated business data we store (including linked Plaid items/secrets and imported transactions), subject to short-term backups or legal holds if applicable
• Email us to request account-related deletion; we may need to verify your identity

6. Your choices and rights

• Disconnect linked bank accounts in the product (where available)
• Stop using the app
• Manage device permissions in your device settings
• Email jaykpatel.dev@gmail.com for access, correction, or deletion requests where applicable

7. Children’s privacy

OpenBook is intended for business owners and adults. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date on this page and, for material changes, provide additional notice when appropriate.
